Roadblocks

roadblocks.jpg

This caricature, which appeared in the "Haaretz" (The Land) newspaper the other day, made me snort out loud on the bus.

A bit of background:

In the past few weeks, anti-disengagement activitist in Israel have caused severe upheaval by creating human roadblocks as part of their protest. They storm major highways and block traffic for hours. They even went as far as pouring oil and nails on a main highway about a week ago, which forced its closure for several hours.

Also over the last few weeks, a large group of right wing extremists took over a hotel in the Gaza strip, and used it as a stronghold for their resistance. Last week the army declared the Gaza strip a closed military zone, barring entry to anyone other than strip residents, and evacuated the hotel.

The caricature shows the barriers set up by the military to block off the area, with the orange clad (the campaign colour) anti-disengagement youth asking "What's going on? Why are you blocking roads?". Brilliant.
