We're off to Canada for three weeks and I will not be updating during this time. Stay tuned for when I return!

101 in 1001 #63 (4 of 101)

I bought a tiny tomato plant at the farmer's market a few weeks ago it has grown by leaps and bounds since. A couple of weeks ago I finally painted the planter I wanted to put it in. I hope it'll still be here when we get back from Canada (the neighbor will be watering it and the cats while we're away) and that it bears fruit even though it'll live indoors.

After cheering M on at several marathons and a couple of ultramarathons (there's a huge one coming up, report once it's over), I finally joined him as a race finisher. I ran a 5k race on Friday in a small town about 20 minutes from where we live. The field was small and I think I came in 3rd last, but I finished it all the same, so yay me!

Thanks for being there to meet me at the finish, M!

And no, there will be no photographic evidence of this task. You'll just have to trust me that I did it, mmmkay?

Q & A : The Photographic Interview

As a start on item 19 on the 101 list, I'll try to complete Q & A : The Photographic Interview.

These are the questions:

1. Where are you from?
2. What does your fridge look like?
3. Who is your favourite person?
4. What is your favourite food?
5. Part of your daily routine
6. What colour are your eyes?
7. What relaxes you?
8. What does your letterbox look like?
9. What do you have planned in the next 12 months?
10. Where are you on a Sunday night?

The questions don't seem very challenging, so I have to think whether to take them at face value or to try to think of a more interesting way to answer them.

Ammersee

We spent this past Saturday on and around the Ammersee, celebrating a friend's birthday and another friend's gig, coincidentally held at the exact same venue. The weather was fantastic and the water was beautiful.

Recycling

I'm recycling something I did back in November 2005, since my life is quite a bit different now than it was then.

List three things about my life that you would like me to photograph.

In Flanders Fields

As a Canadian, you learn to associate poppies with sorrow and death from a fairly young age. Nearly all Canadians wear poppy pins on their lapels during November, leading up to Remembrance day on November 22nd, and at school children are expect to memorize John McCrae's In Flanders Fields. This is why the poppies caught me by surprise when they began to bloom this spring. Suddenly every field was surrounded by a bright, red border, and some fields were completely red.

On my way to work I pass quite a few fields and every morning I'd stare at the gorgeous red and smile, because it was just so... happy. When I think of war, the image in my mind is tinged in gray, as if the standard world comes to a halt and loses its colour. It may seem odd, but in my imagination plants stopped growing during the war, so it seemed inconceivable to me that while the war was going on, the poppies continued to grow and the fields were bright red and... happy.

101 in 1001 #74 (2 of 101)

I probably would have put this one off until the last possible moment, but my favourite client contacted me for a quote on behalf of her boyfriend, which gave me the opportunity to discuss the rate raise with her. While I was super stressed about it, she turned out to be incredibly cool about it, which is probably why she's my favourite client .
