That is the exact purpose of the chefs' pants, though you wonder if that is the case, why the entire uniform isn't checkered, because by the time I finish a day of cooking my whites turn into a brownish orange...

tien, the material the pants are made of is actually a special material that does have to do with retarding fire, but the pattern has nothing to do with it, it's just supposed to be a practical way of hiding nasty stains, though if I take a closer look at my uniform, not very well.
